| 3 signed cards hi all i have just joined a club for the 1st time and as of yet i havent got an official handicap i joined this club because of reputation, cost and and it distance from home. the only problem i have is i dont know a soul at the club and am finding it hard to find playing partners who can sign a card for me. i am really keen to enter the comps but cant without the handicap. is it possible to play in the comps with the soul purpose of gaining 3 signed cards. |

ill contact the club tomorrow and raise the subject! there's also the small matter of laying out 1100 quid and then being told at the moment i cant play till after noon at weekends because the comps are on ![]() |

| Re: 3 signed cards One more thing I guess could be mentioned, if your new club is in any way considered "exclusive" and has a high number of members, then they may have comp entrant number limits in force... But that said, you should certainly be told if that is the case. If not, then I see no problem whatsoever in your playing in a club comp as a handicapping round only. Certainly you will not be eligible to win the comp, but that's the point isn't it... Eventually you would want to win one...!!! Hang in there mate, and don't be frightened to be a little "forward"... "Hi, my name is Tiger Woods, I'm a new member here, would you mind if I joined your group......" Cheers ![]()

Dear Malcolm As a new member to the club i am finding it difficult to find members to play a round with and get the neccessary signed cards required for my official handicap. i would like to enter the club competitions as just a stroke playing member of a group for handicapping purposes only until i have enough cards signed to submit for calculation? warm regards ian slater |

| Re: 3 signed cards Slats, in most clubs u would have to enter 2 comps to get a handicap - ie they accept 1 signed card and 2 medal rounds - u sign up to the medal as F/H and go from there - I thought that was normal practice. Sounds strange to me! |

| Re: 3 signed cards Ian, As a member (paid up) you are entitle to put your name on the time sheet for comps. Best thing is to enter singles comps. This way the other guys wil have to swap cards with the group. Anyway, I am surprised that you are having this problem. If you are still having trouble, talk to the h/cap sec. Cheers, Robert |

| Re: 3 signed cards thanks for the replies guys just had a call from the club pro. the club's stance is that i am not allowed to enter any comps without an official handicap, but he is going to sort out some rounds for me with members who will sign cards for me ![]() |

In fact, to get a first handicap, the committee may take note of scores of any tees at all, even the ladies' !! |
