Re: Club lengths measurements in taking relief (once and for all..!)

An interesting scenario a few tournaments back:

The pro (I think this was LPGA) hit into a vendors booth. Her relief was more than one clublength but less than two, no nearer the hole.

IOW, she had to drop AT LEAST one club away from the building, but no more than two.

Originally she measured with her driver. She had no look. Then she used her SW, and had a line.

So, while it's an etiquette thing that says use the club for the next shot, it's simply advised. There's no penalty for measuring one and using another.

A new highlight: Golfing the home course on Christmas Day.

I say it too often: If it's golf club shaped, you can play with it.

For the record, I'm a club doctor, not a swing doctor.

What rule was this under ?
I doesn't even tally with the TIO Loacal Rule.

Re: Club lengths measurements in taking relief (once and for all..!)

The specimen LR only says in respect of club length

II. Interference
Interference by a temporary immovable obstruction occurs when (a) the ball lies in front of and so close to the obstruction that the obstruction interferes with the player’s stance or the area of his intended swing, or (b) the ball lies in, on, under or behind the obstruction so that any part of the obstruction intervenes directly between the player’s ball and the hole; interference also exists if the ball lies within one club-length of a spot equidistant from the holewhere such intervention would exist.

and

III. Relief
A player may obtain relief from interference by a temporary immovable obstruction, including a temporary immovable obstruction that is out of bounds, as follows:
(a) Through the Green: If the ball lies through the green, the point on the course nearest to where the ball lies must be determined that (a) is not nearer the hole, (b) avoids interference as defined in Clause II and (c) is not in a hazard or on a putting green. The player must lift the ball and drop it without penalty within one club-length of the point so determined on a part of the coursethat fulfills (a), (b) and (c) above.
