The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews have the rules on their web site, but it makes for difficult reading, and humping the computer around the course is a bit of a pain!

The rules are located here. http://www.randa.org/index.cfm?cfid=....rulessub.home

I got a handy pocket sized copy of the rules from the R&A site just for the price of asking !

I dont know if the offer still stands.

Rules Book

The Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance Company sponsor the R&A Rules of Golf Book which is free to all golfers, usually obtainable from your Pro's Shop. That is of course for those living in the UK.

However, the Book is about A6 in size which is handy for keeping it in your golf bag. It states the rules without elaboration which is ok if your able to interpret the rule in all circumstances.

If you are keen to understand and develop your knowledge of the Rules then I strongly recommend that you obtain a copy of
"Decisions on the Rules of Golf 2002-2003", this book is published jointly by the R&A and the US Golf Association. You will never digest the whole of this book, however, by relating previous decisions and interpretations of rules under various conditions and circumstance it is invaluable as an aid to understanding.

I honestly believe that it should be mandatory for every golfer who plays competitive golf - even the Club Monthly Medal. At a cost of around £15 it is well worth it. Contact Amazon if you cannot obtain through your local Pro.

regards - JonF

go to the USGA site
http://www.usga.org/rules/index.html

then click on the rules of golf and you get the complete book with decisions...easy to read...easy (but time consuming to download..
