Question Scorecards...

I'm in Australia, so things may be slightly different here. I've only just started playing and I'm not sure about the scorecards I'm given. There are a couple of columns that have numbers in them and are called "stroke index" and "match index". What does this mean?

Re: Scorecards...

I would assume one is to mark your score total in stroke play, whereas the other would be to mark the results of holes won/lost in match play.

Re: Scorecards...

In the UK most course scorecards have a stroke index for each hole. This represents the difficulty of that hole. For example, a hole that has a stroke index of 1, means that it is considered the hardest hole on the course. Therefore a person with a 1 handicap and above will recieve a shot on that hole. Likewise a hole that has a stroke index of 18 is considered the easiest hole on the course and all players with an 18 handicap and above will recieve a shot there. The match index is used in the same way but for matchplay.

Re: Scorecards...

So that would be the same as the hole handicap system used in N. America then.

ccguy

The english use of hole and match indexes as described by pgapro is the same as that used in Australia.
