Re: It's Worth Mentioning - Shawn Clement Videos

First, I do like this guy Clement, he has a nice easy way about him.

I have to say that I don't follow this idea of comparing a golf swing to casting a fly on a rod. The fishing cast only has to swing with concentration at the target, the golf swing has to collect a ball between your feet then send it to the target, different actions. That smacks at steering the club which is not good. He suggests that when you concentrate on striking the ball you will make a jabbing short swing, this is mixing apples with oranges, the problem he mentions is a jabby short swing which is corrected by a smooth flowing swing while still striking the ball.

He is correct regarding spine angle.

Re: It's Worth Mentioning - Shawn Clement Videos

I would like to add my instant reaction to this thread, I have been lazy and simply read the first post and watched the first video:

My instant thought was this guy is clearly a good golfer but has many swing faults, he is inside going back, doesn't get his body firing though etc etc however what he does perfect is the 3SKs...........!!!

Please don't reply saying "oh no not that 3SKs again"..........but if you watch his impact he executs all three perfect.

Just thought I would mention it thats all.

Thanks

Ian.

You will not understand releasing early because more than likely emphasis has been placed on spine angle, extending the arms in the backswing to make a full swing arch, allowing the wrist to hinge before the top of the backswing.

When we hinge the wrist in the backswing is not important in our discussion.

Upon full extension of the arms in the backswing one reaches the top of the backswing, right upper arm is away from the body and the 1st action is to return the right arm back to the chest from a little lateral forward movement.

When you return the right arm back to the chest you have shorten your swing arch and since that is a gravity move in the downswing it is somewhat wasted motion.

Now if you can take your backswing for our discussion, Kenny Perry who keeps the elbows flex in the backswing and makes a larger downswing arch on the way down is not trying to shorten the swing arch by gravity, he can turn on the juice at the top of the downswing and the clubhead drops around the back foot and continues to swing fully back around the body into the forward swing.

What are most of the people trying to work on in the downswing? Body rotation, clubface rotation, the last minute pushing power, all of which is the last minute jabbing effect.

When you can take a student, have him to swing back and the clubhead is thrown down and he follows through into the forward swing, the student learns faster, builds confidence in his/her swing, scores drop faster because most of the moving parts have been removed, distance is as great or greater because they are making center contact while others are trying to rotate to make center contact or trying to move down in the downswing in the right direction so they do not throw the club off path.

What is Bill Reed doing? A little more excess than the Simple/Symple Swing Concept because he likes Lee Trevino and Bill states the swing works for him.

Simple/Symple Swing concept.

You take your grip, drop the left foot a little back in the stance, square the clubface, the head now is back in the stance, the open body prevents people from swinging too far to the inside, so they swing straight back into the top of the backswing and straight back down in the downswing.

A great way to start any child out or even someone new to the game. Swing back the wrist will hinge and swing back down versus trying to teach the child or new player 50 things all to do at once, things that the instructor may even to forget to do with 50 items facing him before he even makes an attempt to hit the ball.

What most people do not understand, spine tilt is more important than spine angle and that back turn is more important than arm extension in the backswing. The open stance does both.

Throw the baseball w/o an attempt to rotate it and you have the fast ball. Throw the clubhead at the ball which lowers the clubhead around the back foot and you produce fast swing speed. There is no speed in levers.

Good reply Cmays. As I said I agree with his comments on spine angle.

Re: It's Worth Mentioning - Shawn Clement Videos

I have viewed several of Shawn Clement's videos and they have been very informative. The ones that have helped my game rightaway were the ones on grip and the one on driver.
Great set of videos.
Thanks for posting the original link in this thread.
Cheers...

They should put that video on their website.
got the book, read it several times, so far have hit 150 balls at the range, and played 12 holes last monday.scored 27 points from the comp tees and won all the money , which has half paid the cost of the book!
just come back from the range , hit 20 balls with my driver(3 wood) not quite there yet with this club but irons are great . seriously frees the mind from all the swing thoughts, recommend this book.
