Another grip question

For the left hand (right-handed golfer) should i approach the club from on top or from the left side? And for the right hand also..underneath or from the right side? Sorry for the newbie question but i keep changing it and its driving me nuts! :-( If i approach the left hand from the left side my grip on that hand is pointing between my chin and left shoulder (Very weak)
Thanks in advance! By the way..just found this forum and it's probably the best i have seen on the net!

Re: Another grip question

Everyone is different in what is a proper grip. Here is where I would start:

Stand straight, and let you arms relax, and rest at your sides. Without thinking, felx the knees a bit, and bend from the waist. Your arms still just dangling there. Again without thinking, bring them cose together.

Where did they meet? Did the thumbs hit first? Did you palms meet first?

Grip a club this way. This is your neutral grip. Start there. Adjusting from there should be a matter of slight adjustments, not major. See your restults. If you see that you are having the move all sorts of grip adjustments from that position, you might be doing something so radical in your swing that needs looking at first. Fix that before getting into an uncomfortable position in the grip.

The grip should be as natural as you can make it.

That's interesting. I never approached the grip in that way before, but now that I do it I see a pretty strong tendency for my thumbs to come together first, with the backs of my hands at about 45* angles away from perpendicular to the target line. I'm not sure how closely that corresponds to my golf grip, but I'll definitely check it out.

Re: Another grip question

Just thought that I would air the question, "has anyone else had their grip changed when ever they use a new PRO?" Just about everytime I go to a new pro I get them fiddling with my grip. Personally I think the grip is a quick fix item---hooking it? change your grip, slicing it? change your grip.

I like Greg's approach. BTW. Best advise I have heard in a while.
