3 Skills

I took up golf recently but found that I was really struggling. I was almost about to give up when I discovered the 3 Skills book. I have started working on the drills at the range and I am starting to get some positive results. I can manage Skill 1 reasonably well and I am actually quite good at Skill 2. However, when I try to put the two together, I`m all over the place. Can anyone offer me any advice on this?

I would have liked a bit more info on Skill 3 from the book - I think that by asking us to imagine the ball starting out right and drawing back is asking a bit too much for beginners. Is there anything else I can do for Skill 3?

Should I keep persevering with this method? - will it help my game, which up until now has not been pretty!

Re: 3 Skills

If your'e executing SK2 well, the club face should be pretty square at the point of impact.

I would say that, for a beginner, SK3 is likely to be the most difficult skill to get used to. Most players open the club face a little on the backswing naturally. Also, without doing too much, there should be some rotation through the ball simply due to the action of the arms, so long as everything stays on plane. Specifically on SK3, think of the smooth rotation of the wrists through the ball. Try not to think too much about the hands turning the toe of the club over. Let the wrists do it. Keep it all smooth.....
