Question Re: Golf Channel (Jim Hardy)

Hi Go Low, saw your post from 2003 and wondered if you had moved to a One Plane Swing and how it had worked for you, trying it myself but when i lose it all the instructors i know try to get me back to a Two Plane Swing. If you do One Plane Swing does it feel like you are swinging inside quickly and very flat? Does swinging back by pushing the left hand / arm / shoulder sound right? I really feel the coil that is mentioned everywhere with this swing but not with a Two Plane Swing. Cheers Blackydog.

Re: Golf Channel (Jim Hardy)

Hogan, The classic "one planer" and sergio the hogan swing of today, do not have a one plane spine angle at address. Tiger went to a flatter swing but does not have the one plane address

Re: Golf Channel (Jim Hardy)

I swing using the one plane approach with my driver and long irons I found this approach to be very successful really good distance and accuracy. Should I use the same approach with my mid irons and short irons (wedges)? I was always told to hit down on the ball. It seem to me that a flatter swing would be more difficult with mid-short irons. Has any of you guys had experience with the one plane swing and short irons?

I really would like to hear your thought and successes or failures.

Thanks,

Robf

Re: Golf Channel (Jim Hardy)

I think I need someone to explain the one and two plane idea to me. Are you saying that at the top of the back swing, your left arm is either going to be parrallel to the incline plane of the club on the backswing (one plane).....or you are above that plane, more upright with the arms.(two planes)

Re: Golf Channel (Jim Hardy)

I adopted a one plane swing some time ago and find it provides the ultimate in consistency.

A swing plane should be the most efficient route from address to impact and should reflect the plane set up at address, this will be unique to each person due to height build etc but should respect a good setup where you are neither too close or far away from the ball and well balanced.

If the golf club swings up and down on the same plane and path it will maximise the chances of striking the ball powerfully and accurately. However there must be a subtle and smooth change of direction between the back and down swings, this is due to a natural shift in plane as you prepare to hit the ball your body will instinctively lower it's centre of gravity in search of power as your legs compress into the ground. The plane will shallow and flatten as it approaches the ball.

You are a one plane swinger. At the top of your backswing your right arm is over the end of your left shoulder, a two plane swinger would have their arms higher at the top so if they let the club drop it would strike them more in the centre of the shoulder, yours would hit the top of your arm.

Re: Golf Channel (Jim Hardy)

So that brings me nicely to my next question. What's the benefits of each? Is it good that i'm a 1 planer? Most people i read on this forum are are changing from 2 planes to 1, never the other way. Why?

Cheers

Hi Darren,

Have a read of my previous post #7 on this thread, I have given a small insight to the benefits. I would be happy to elaborate more or answer some questions.
