Dave Pelz Best Tip

I've been attempting to get through Dave Pelz Putting Bible &Short Game Bible -- but he is so long-winded, and I can't take it. In Canada, we have something called Coles Notes, which is an abbreviated version of usually an academic book, and you can study the Coles Notes version as opposed to grinding your way through an original difficult text. There ought to be a Coles Notes version of Dave Pelz. So, if you've made it through his books, what was the greatest tip you found?

Re: Dave Pelz Best Tip

hi jamesh
there is it called Dave Pelz "putt like a pros". its not as deep as the putting bible and also "see it and sink it" but thats not as good.
there is also "10 minuets a day" but i have not read that so cant tell you how good it is. the two bibles (short game and putting) are to of the best books i have read on golf and ever time i read them again i learn something more, both are books you have to read more than once to take it all in and i do agree its heavy going at time but you will get a lot back out of the effort.
cheers
bill

Re: Dave Pelz Best Tip

The wedge system in the short game book was probably the best 'tip'.

Re: Dave Pelz Best Tip

Yeah, the wedge tip in the short game bible - he says carry 4 wedges at the expense of some long or mid irons and have a nailed on full swing distance, and one for the 10, 9 and 7 o'clock backswing positions so you've got a shot for every distance from 120 yards and in, which he reckons is THE most important shot in the game for all levels of player.

Re: Dave Pelz Best Tip

I know what you mean about pelz's bibles. I have the putting and short game.

I jumped straight to the drills and techniques to start practicing straight away. I have though read the varios chapters and must admit they are worth the read to explain why your doing and help your shot choice.

I use the 4 wedge system but with the additional information from the book I can now think and consider what type of shot to play etc rather than just grab my pw every time. some of its obvious but I no longer just hit without thinking

The putting was just as good. Putting is one of my 10 achilles heels! straight to the drills, flick back later to understand the ehy and the what.

I am a pelz fan in terms of technique...a reluctant fan in terms of the mammoth explanations but they're worth it in the end.

it does help though I have 2hrs on the train each day to take time to read. Mind you you do get some funny looks when you pull your putter out!!

Dave Pelz and best tip are oxymorons.
Absolutely useless, overhyped and a copycat.

I'm all for some qualification to the above. Unless points 1 and 2 are simply opinion.

Re: Dave Pelz Best Tip

hi takinitdeep
sorry but i disagree with you on the part about Dave Pelz, it was Pelz that started the 4 wedge system with Tom Kite and and now almost all pros now carry at least 3 wedges and thats all down to the research that pelz did. his putting bible cover more than any other book on putting and is based on years and years of his research. not on someone saying this works or that works it is based on study. both his books the short game and putting bibles are research based and that is why there so hard to read but there is more factual information in them than any other study i have ever read or heard of so far.
Dave Pelz has been taking data on golf for over 25 years and using that data for the better understanding of how to score better.
you only have to look at the top pros that have used him over the years to see just how well thought off he by the top pros in golf.
i would be suprised if you read his 2 bibles that you found nothing of interest as i know you have a deep understanding off the game and find it very surprising your putting him down.
maybe you can explain why you have no time for him. not having a go at you takinitdeep its just i have got a lot from his books.
cheers
bill

Hi Tid,

What is Oxymoron in his teachings? I cannot see anything that I would consider a contradiction in terms.

Please clarify?

uphill and downhill loft changes for chips---changed my game. I had never thought of how a uphill lie would change the effect loft of the club that I was hitting... Awesome tip.

I can relate. I drove a ball up a massive hill - the green was on top- and I was about 7 yards from the pin - I used a 60 degree club with 4 degreess of bounce - it took me four strokes to hit the green! So on the last round, I ended up near the same spot with my drive - and I used my PW - the ball popped off the face - and bang I was on the green! This course is in a Valley, applying the same strategy on other hills saved a lot of strokes.

Ah! Penny dropped. You believe the contradiction is Dave Pelz and best tips. Each to his own.
