Re: When one side dominates the other?

Hi Kenusi,

the issue you brought up has puzzled me for quite some time, which side should dominate in the downswing, Leslie King focuses on the left side, other pro's focuses on the right side, today I played an 7-iron, playing one ball predominantly with my left and then with my right side, I was very surprised to see that my ball went 7 yards further and with a better ball flight using the left side comparing with the right, although it's very important to use the hips, turning yours hips and lower body starting the downswing. It would be interesting to hear from you what reactions you have received so we can exchange our experiences and knowledge.

Regards

boaxel

Re: When one side dominates the other?

Without refreshing my memory reading my last input I would like to say;

I am right side dominant. Yet, when I focus on the left side on the downswing, I don't cast and I hit a crisper shot.

And this was the thought I was just having in reading the thread. Maybe what we should be doing is focusing on our non-dominate side, therefore bringing more balance to our swing.

Re: When one side dominates the other?

Hello All:

This thread is great and one that really goes in the "philosophy" category.....like "when a tree falls in the woods does it make a sound?".......I don't know the answer to that age old question but I do know when my golf ball hits the trees it usually makes quite a racket......

Anyway, when I get caught up in thinking left or right sided thoughts, I tend to get away from the swinging action and instead focus on a levering action which is no good for me. It is called a golf swing for a reason and in my opinion, to make a balanced swing, I need to focus on both sides moving in harmony.

I try to make sure that I am creating this balanced swinging motion throughout. I find the challenge is at the takeaway and transition where I tend to get jerky at times. If I focus on creating a nice smooth swinging motion at takeaway and create that same smooth swinging motion during transition I feel like both the left and right sides are really working together. Equally important is that fact that I feel my upper and lower body working in concert. It's all about balance and tempo.

In reality, body motion testing proves that power is generated by the right side for right handed golfers. When I try to get too much out of my right side I start to hear those trees again.......

Re: When one side dominates the other?

I try not to focus too much on my left/right side or upper/lower body... that stuff is more for beginners, though. At this point I just try to have my whole body coordinated for a smooth swing.

Famed instructor Marshall Smith has some good articles about swinging from the right side. Google him up and/or buy his latest book...

Yeah'n keep the swing simple and stick to the basics. Sure, at the driving range, you may tweak a bit with your swing but only one fix at a time.
