Just Amazing

For years i played and was miserable. I couldnt get to the top to make a good swing. So i have been reading this site, questions and answers.....i remembered greg willis from somewhere, couldnt remember

but i read some of his answers to ques.....i emailed and asked if i could call him...................i have spine problems and am a bit tilted left

now remember jack nicklaus on his backswing kept his right elbow tight against his side....COMPARED TO ME..... My elbow was out, up ,hand was facing down..on and on

so we are on the phone...and greg says ....ok stand up.....and he tells me what to try................i am writing this 15 minutes after he and i spoke........i now have a different setup......no spine pressure.....take it back...elbow down.....waiter holding a tray....went outside....I DID IT...I DID IT......OVER AND OVER

he taught me over the phone................i explained it (my problem)

and he FIXED IT....GEEEEEZ......YES im excited......i was a 4 handicap (for 4 holes)......now im ready to go play....

whats the name of that song.....AMAZING GR.......EG CORRECT

WOW i am pumped

thanks

greg

Wow that is a long run on sentence.
It sounds to me like you're jumping the gun a bit. You've had a phone conversation, taken a few swings in the back yard, and now your expectations are that your swing faults have been eliminated. I wouldn't get too excited! There are countless golfers who have seen , read, heard, and experimented thinking that they found a secret to their golf games only to find it didn't improve them like they thought it would (if at all) when they actually go out to the course and hit golf balls. If you go out and hit it 20+ yards longer, more solidly (in the center of the clubface), and straighter consistently on the vast majority of your shots then come back and tell us. It sounds to me like you have your hopes set very high on something that has never made contact with a golf ball.

BTW: I've never heard Jack Nickalus say that he kept his right elbow tight to his side in the backswing like you wrote, and in fact Jack and others have said that he kept his right elbow loose and floating which lead him to a high right elbow at the top of the swing (often referred to as a flying right elbow).

Re: Just Amazing

See, I told you Howard (hjack) that you needed to go play before you made any assessments of the adjustment. (-; to Avid's point, he is correct.

All we really did was approach Howard's issues from a different perspective, trying to work with some physical limitations. And they seemed to make sense in a conceptual respect. The proof will be when you get back to the range/course and see if they work.

Your enthusiasm is great and hopefully correct.

Re: Just Amazing

ok guys......firstly avid.....

i was saying that jack had his elbow close to him, compared to me!!!!.....and your post is correct...people read , try etc. Its playing to really know...... and your right i did jump the gun.....

In my life i have never shot below 98....never ever.....so when i do play...it will be fun to try........and maybe i did have a long run on sentence. I guess going to the backyard is not really a test. Who really knows, Greg might have told me things were were so temporary that they wont work. TODAY is Monday.....i havent played for 3 years, because of 2 hip replacements and 6 way by-pass

my friend called today and asked if i wanted to go to a driving range and hit some.

i hit just about every shot, left OF right

he is my best friend.....he has gone through my surgeries with me.

he said you want to go play right?

and so we went, 18 holes with a cart.

he is about a 6 handicap

we both hit from the white tees

first time in 3 years, very nerve racking

i got a bit tired at about 15, he asked if i wanted to stop

nope, i was going to finish......

we finished, went in to have lunch....

he looked at me and said YOU SUCK, i just smiled

Howard you havent played for 3 years, and you shoot......86

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS S

i hit it solid most of the day.....putting was off.....

8 greens in reg........................fun day.....i knew it GREG i knew it last night....and avid your right. I have been so bad so long.....i needed that one move.....just get me to the top....ill do the rest

ok i am tired....a little nap......no way i can play for the next 3 or days

except we have tee time...10:25 tomorrow

thanks

Howard

Re: Just Amazing

There is nothing wrong with having high hopes. Sometimes the positives of the mental side of this game will feed into someone before they have even hit a ball. That is one of the greatest feelings a golfer can have.

Having the right attitude is key - there is no place for anyone else but you, hjack, to tell you how you feel.

Congrats on the round and try to keep the amount of rounds you play this week to yourself - just kidding .

Some of us still have another month or so before we can play again

Re: Just Amazing

Thanks Matt

I think Avid and Greg were trying to be helpful. They were wanting me to be careful not to let my emotions get the best of me. What i dont think they were aware of is for 25 years i stood to close to the ball (AFTER I HIT IT). Even tho when i first read avids post, i was a bit taken back, after rereading it i understood his intentions. As for GREG......trust me he is very excited for me. Greg also is just a bit afraid, 2 more weeks on the course and im offering him 3 a side...LOL......its a fun game, but just a game and im learning how to play.

thanks for your thoughts

Howard "the hittttman" YEAH RIGHT
