Chili-dipping...help !

I seem to be chili-dipping most shots front the fairway and rough and its getting really annoying. I'm a little right (been right handed) off the tee but not too bad. I'm only a newbie to golf playing the last year and a half......please help !!!!

Re: Dhilli dipping...help !

Generally chili-dipping comes from decelerating on chip shots. I'll assume you're chunking your seconds shots - hitting them fat - which could be caused by a few things; hanging back on your trail leg, tilting your spine (dipping your shoulders), or possibly even 'trying to take something off' (decelerating) through impact.

Chipping is fine its the 2nd shot or 3rd from the fairway or rough which is my big problem but off the tee I seem to be fine with driver and irons ?

Maybe its because the ball is teeeed up high that I'm ok off the tee ?
Its frustrating hitting the fairway with a drive and hitting fat on the next shot

Re: Dhilli dipping...help !

What I find in my own game when my tee shots are really good but my second shots seem poor is that I'm not getting my weight forward enough for those shots.

Try making sure your weight favours your target side a little more than normal for those second shots.

Re: Dhilli dipping...help !

Weight shift has always been a struggle for me. Hitting DOWN on the ball making "ball then turf" contact is only something I have done well for the last year. Here is what I do, and it may be worth a try, ESPECIALLY with your short game....

2 thing I do that work consistently:

1) Maintain bowed right wrist, flat left wrist, through impact (see Greg's Right Hand Drill).
2) Put 70-80% if my weight on my LEFT LEG and leave it there.

As the clubs get LONGER, I move more weight to my right foot at setup, which it turn, I shift more weight to my right side during the backswing. Going as high as my 8 iron, I will keep the weight about 50-50 between the left and right foot. I hit it PLENTLY far enough (150 carry with an 8 iron) when doing this. I get great compression and never hit it fat.

When I overshift the weight, or reverse pivot, I strand weight on my right side and usually hit it fat & ugly. 2 things not good in a golf swing or women.

Give it a try. It will work in your short game, may really help in your mid-to-short irons.
