I re-read your post. Did you notice if your SS went up or down when you tried to kill it? I've personally noticed a 10mph difference between trying to turn quickly but smoothly and trying to kill it (ie muscle it out there). Killing it is always slower - always. As I'm sure we've all heard/read, tense muscles are slow muscles. So it very well could be that your on-course SS is higher than the 93MPH that you produce when killing it. This would also raise your carry towards the 250 range. Now, all this said, have you ever used some technology to actually confirm your distances? Most days I play, I carry my drive 240 yards (GPS and laser verifed) with a 102-104 MPH SS. Rarely do I nut my driver, but my PTR number must be pretty good - close to 1.4 for those drives. I'll agree that not everything has to be explained by numbers, but numbers, like video, don't lie. And numbers, like video, can certainly explain a lot. Obviously the job of a proper driver fitting is to give you the most distance you can get - and this is based on numbers.

More loft will increase both launch angle and spin. If gatorguy is trying to maintain his LA while increasing spin, a higher lofted driver would mean changing his swing. However, I think more loft would equal more distance all around. |

| Re: Shaft Importance? The guy tested me in more loft and it didn't increase my distance, like I said I'm just looking for a higher ball flight I dont even really care about the spin ratings, he tried me in a 10.5 and it didn't gain me any distance because the launch angle was too high although it did increase the spin. The guy went over and over different options, different clubs, different club heads, square drivers, the new sasquatch, he went through everything. We both came to the decision taht I needed the lower kick poitn shaft with a softer tip. He said to either get the graffaloy high launch or the aldila NVS and he recommended the NVS because it's made by the same company and woudl feel very similar to the NV I had which is for faster swing speeds and lower ball flight.

The cost of the installation of the UST ProForce into the Callaway was $117 (US) including taxes and shipping (the original shaft was a Adilia NVS). The original Cleveland Hi-bore shaft was a Fujikara and I replaced it myself for about $70. So the cost was not nearly as much as a new driver would cost. I am extremely pleased with the results thus far. ![]() |

| Re: Shaft Importance? Yeah, thats the way I feel. I didn't want to buy a new driver, and I really like the one I have now. The Aldila NV is made for players with higher swing speeds and higher ball flight because it is more of a low flight shaft. The NVS is supposed to give higher ball flights which is all I am asking because the low ball flights are the only thing killing my distance right now. |

| Re: Shaft Importance? Alright so I finally got my driver back and got to go out and play today. I'll say I'm kinda half and half agreeing with you guys. I mean yeah it didn't take me from a low ball flight to a very high one, but it definitely improved it and heightened the ball flight a enough to where I could for sure see a difference. I'm glad I did it, I was very accurate with it today and the distance was pretty good but it was hard to judge if it was increased or not because it was only about 40 degrees today. A good decision in my book though.

Just tee it higher and hit the ball on the up like all the pro's.. ![]() But I would go see a pro first to make sure your shaft/kick point/loft is ok for you. Each to his own you could say. Go and get a fitting preferably when you are playing well, to many golfers go to stores and buy a new club when all they need is confidence/repetition/ a beer in there belly! The optimum for carry and roll out is between 35% and 40% from the top of the flight to the floor. If you are say 46% from the top of its ark to the floor you are hitting it to high, conversely if you are say 30 % then you are not getting the ball high enough to maximize your distance.
