Hi Arnie, Joe purchased the explanar about seven years ago, but hardly used it. He sold it on a while back as it was not conducive to his 3Sk philosophy. It is quite an invasive way of teaching golf as it attempts to force you to swing a certain way, this is not to say that it wont help your golf. It is obviously a popular training aid.

Re: Explanar Thanks Greg for your reply. I was reading the testimonials on the Explanar website and Joe has given it a glowing report. Why would he do that if he didn`t think it was any good? In what way don`t you think it`s conducive to the 3SK approach? Also, regarding the one plane approach - as the roller rolls, surely this makes it a 2 plane approach? Just interested! Thanks, Arny

| Re: Explanar There is one at my local driving range, I have tried it a few times and Bill is correct that it represents a single plane. It is good for making you extend your arms on the backswing and again in the follow through, it encourages a straight left arm into impact and a straight right arm in the release as the roller is kept in contact. It is also good for strengthening the muscles in your arms and shoulders as the roller is quite heavy and takes some effort to roll around the tube. I can see why Joe has considered it to be contrary to his 3 skills philosophy as it is designed to train the positions of your swing. I would suggest that Joe used it prior to his new system of teaching.

Re: Explanar I'v seen another version of this, one that is very easy to jery rig one up at home. it involves a stationary point near your head height. and you need a string and you tie off the rope (like jumping rope size) to that point and to your club (closest to you hand). It takes some caltbrating to see how high you need to put it to get the right swing plane, and to center it so your plane is in to in. I think it works great for fixing OTT, any time the string slacks you are hitting wrong. It forces you to pull agaist the string to keep it taught and i think that forces you to drop on the corect plane in the downswing. If you have a short high tension spring it help to put that on the stable point and tie the rope to that so that there is slight give Last edited by golfinguy28; 04-05-2008 at 09:21 PM.

Re: Explanar hi golfinguy one of the spring straps you use to hold things on on a motorbike would work with a bit of cord. sounds like a not bad training aid. tying it to cloths pole in the garden about head high should do. you want it mid way between the lowest point and the highest point good thinking. cheers bill Last edited by bill reed; 04-05-2008 at 09:42 PM.

Re: Explanar thanks, but i can't take the credit for it, some company i saw once a long time a go was selling some unit that did tht exact same thing for like $200. I never understood why golf stuff is soo expensive, and why people are willing to pay so much for training aids that can easily be jerry rigged. like an "alignment tool" that is like $60 or you can just buy some dowels for $1 or 2 and make your own.

Re: Explanar I used one at a golf shool last year and wish i had one at my disposal whenever i need it. As for buying one they are expensive and it really depends on what you are trying to improve on. One of my swing flaws is that i swing too flat sometimes because i take it back too far on the inside, the explanar gives me the correct feedback on my takeaway and forces me nopt to swing on the inside. Because of the weight of the roller it also acts as a good weight training excercise for golf.
