| Re: problems with keeping the club face closed I have my students do a few things in the fundemental department. Band-aids may stop one action and create a few other swing faults to fix next.
Some things to check in address:
Neutral grip - a grip that is too strong at address tends to be left open at impact. A neutral grip allows the club to release through the impact zone.
Proper address position - one thing I see the most with slicers in a bending at the waist - not at the ball and socket joints of the hips. Stand at a military attention position and bend at the bal and socket joints. The arse will go back and the shoulders will move over the toes. This will allow the club room to swing. Sitting backward will cause the arms to hang behind the knees causing a body roll vice a free arm swing resulting in a cramped weak shot to the right.
Feet in a open position - Put a club behind your heels to get on the target line - just like railroad tracks. If the foot line is open, a slice will definately happen.
Left arm position to close to the middle of the body - When taking an addess, position your left arm to the side of your body first and address it behind the ball first, this is the outside of the swing circle on the backswing. Adjust your body to that position and put the right hand (inside of the swing circle on the backswing) on the club last. You will be better measured for a full swing.
Other things to look for -
Too fast on the backswing - The swing must have the proper tempo for all the elements to complete. Slowing down the backswing put the club in the proper position to make a smooth transition.
Hips too fast on the downswing - The bellybutton moves 8" back and 16" forward during the golf swing, it is the smallest arc. Don't let your hips out race you hands they will never catch up and release through the ball.
This is just a short list.
Good luck with you swing,
GB
