Looking for a drill to keep hands back

Hello, I am looking for a good drill to help keep my hands back during he downswing. I have been playing the ball much too forward in my stance which has been causing me to sky the ball. My 7 iron has only been flying 115! I realize I need to move the ball back in my stance and put a swing on it that comes down and through to really drive the ball outward rather than upward. The problem is that with the ball further back in my stance I am not turning on it properly. I am either pushing it straight right or coming over the top and pulling it straight left with a harsh slice back to the right. Does anyone have a good drill to help me keep the hands back and turn on the ball properly?

Those are kind of two different things. Your ball position is really poor as you describe it. I think it is going to be really hard to zero in on a single drill to help you. Your best bet is to record a video of your swing, both down the target line from behind and head on and post them. You can get a lot of useful tips from people here with a video.

Re: Looking for a drill to keep hands back

You are probably flipping your wrists at impact. Work on keeping your lead wrist flat and your trail wrist cupped as you strike the ball, don't try and lift the ball in the air, leave that to the loft on the club.

With ball position: Keep the ball around 2 to 3 inches inside your lead heel with all clubs then open your trail foot to change the width of your stance for different clubs.

Practice 7 iron half-swings with your feet together and the ball centered.
