My Golf Swing Video - Please Help!

Hi everyone, just joined the forum.

I'm not a member of any golf forums, but have been a long time member at the top gaming/poker chip forum on the web.

A little about myself, I am 22, have 15 years of competitive baseball experience, and have gone golfing 1 time (last week). I think many of my problems will come from my baseball past, but not sure if that is part of the problem or not....

I know this will take time and patience, but I'm ready to practice and put in the work to improve.

Golfing was pretty frustrating last weekend as I just could not get the ball into the air, everything was going 30-50 yards on the ground. I felt like I was hitting the top of the ball, and didn't really feel comfortable at all.

Any tips/drills to work on or help identifying what is wrong with my swing would be greatly appreciated!

First, welcome to the site.

You are swinging quite well for someone who has only just started, well done. There are a few things you will need to work on but here is something to start with:

You are topping the ball which is causing the ball to run along the ground, this means the bottom edge of your clubface is hitting the ball too high up. When you swing the club at the ball keep the bend in your back all the way through the shot, don't allow yourself to lift up straight, this will allow the clubface to work more under the ball. Don't try to lift the ball into the air with the club, try swinging down into the back of the ball, you have to hit downwards to get the ball up and your weight should move from your back foot to your front foot as you swing down.

Work on these things first and you will get the ball flying upwards. When you can do that then take another video and let us have another look. Most of all enjoy yourself

Yeah, every shot felt like I just grazed the top of the ball and sent it dribbling to the right...

I had a ton of fun, even playing poorly, so I can't wait to get better because I would imagine golf being a lot more fun the better you get!
