How Do You Get Consistancy?

I played a round today and as usual on 3 of the holes I became a "Slugger" as I call it .

Basicaly my nice smooth swing turns in to a type of clubbing action, like I am trying to swat a fly. I know what causes it, I am trying too hard.

Is there a mental or physical excersize I can adopt to settle my swing down when this happens.

My front 9 card looked like this Par 5 shot 6, 4 shot 5, 5 shot 5, 3 shot 4, 4 shot 8!!!!!, 4 shot 4, 5 shot 11 argh!!!!!!, 3 shot 3, 4 shot 5, You see what I mean. On the back 9 I was better but still managed a 10 on a par 4.

The only way to get consistancy is PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE.

Just remember though, as Ben Hogan said: "Practice doesn't make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect."

Practice is great - a necessity for getting better - but don't drill bad habits!

Re: How Do You Get Consistancy?

If you're not consistent you won't hit two balls the same; what you have to do is get your body into position to deliver the club head on the same plane for every swing. The most effective way of doing this is to keep everything basic and compact in the swing; this way less can go wrong if you keep it simple. Try reading, Ben Hogan's - Five Lesson as the book can explain a little better than what I can. It will also tel you specific things that I have not found in any other golf tuition book.
