| Hitting the ball with an Open club face Has anybody got an ideas how I can stop doing this. When I do a practise swing, if I stop at impact then the club is slightly open. Of course this causes pushes or push slices. I've had this shot for the last 10 years and most times I can get around it. It mostly effects my drives or fairway wood shots. I'm getting fed up of playing from the right side of the golf course. I've tried hundreds of idea's to get rid of this but nothing has worked so far. It's like a curse. Today I was hitting my drives perfect and then I hit one horrible push slice. After that every shot I hit was a push slice. Anybody ???? |

| Re: Hitting the ball with an Open club face This problem is usually due to your grip. Try this drill: Grip two clubs with your normal grip - one club with each hand. Make sure each club is lined up square. At the same time, take each club back to the top of your swing and bring each one dwon to the impact position. If the club face is not square, adjust your grip on the club that did not square at impact. Repeat the drill until both clubs are square at the impact position. Most times it is usually only one hand that is not in the correct position.

| Re: Hitting the ball with an Open club face Try lining the club up behind the ball square to target then take your grip.It may also be worth checking your ball position (just inside forward foot for woods) having the ball back towards the centre of your stance can led to a open clubface at impact because your wrists haven't had enough time to complete there roll. Good luck Kiwi |

| Re: Hitting the ball with an Open club face Thanks to the last 2 previous posters for your help. I've noticed something in the last few days about my set up. I address the ball with my right foot at an angle. This means my body is not square to the ball and is in fact slightly open. If I square my right foot up then my set up looks better. I'm going to try this next time I play. |

| Re: Hitting the ball with an Open club face That was something that the first guy I took a lesson from addressed. He noted that most people flare one foot - after squaring up to the ball. This changes their setup line - requiring a small step forward with the flared foot. You might try that as well. |

| Re: Hitting the ball with an Open club face Played twice in the last couple of days. Scored 70 and 73. Hit the ball great. Totally different ball flight. No pushes, a few fades instead, makes a massive difference. ![]() |

| Re: Hitting the ball with an Open club face Well I've only played 2 rounds so the dreaded push might come back. But fingers crossed !! I've changed my stance. I used to have my right foot at an angle. a bit like this .. | / I think with my right foot like this, it caused my hips and legs to be open. The result, a push shot. With my feet straight, my swing feels better balanced as well. |
