Golf Books

Golf Books,

I have just finished reading "The inner game of Golf" 1986 version by Timothy Gallwey. I must say it was fantastic, nothing about the golf swing at all, just natural ability.

In a nut shell.....there are two people in all of us "self 1" and "self 2",,, self 1 is the meddling little person who doesn't trust self 2 to swing a club, when in fact self 2 (the body) can swing the club perfect without interferance from self 1......so teach self 1 to be occupied with something else when you swing...that what the book does.

A truly great read, enough said now go out and purchase it.

Anyone got any other ideas about good books ???????

Hope this helps you it's helped me.

Ian.

Re: Golf Books

Tim Gallwey's book is excellent, I thought you might enjoy it and get some benefit. For "mental approach books", I suggest:
1. Dr Bob Rotella's books
2. Improve you Golf IQ
3. Tension Free Golf
4. Going Low: How to Break Your Individual Scoring Barrier (excellent book! )

If you're looking for more golf-related / swing stuff - I suggest:
1. "The Swing Factory"
2. any of the books written by Mike Hebron
3. Tour Tempo: Golf's Last Secret Finally Revealed
4. The Eight Step Swing
5. The Scramblers Dozen
6. How To Play Links Golf (it has a lot of stuff that is generalised and not only for Links courses)
7. Breaking 100,90,80,70
8. Lowdown From The Lesson Tee
9. Butch Harmon's Playing Lessons
10. Golf Digest's Ultimate Drill Book

I have hundreds (quite literally!) of golf books and a few hundred magazines but any respected golf library should have these books.

You should be able to get most from the Amazon or Abebooks.

Re: Golf Books

Jack Nicklaus has a series of great books. Golf My Way is superb and his illustraded books are just as good. As with all of The Bear's teaching stuff its all about course management and self control. Dont expect any gems about the mechanics of the swing but its pure gold in places.

Don't laugh but Sandy Lyle's instruction book is actually ok, its very similar to Nicklaus stuff in that it concentrates on how to score rather than how to swing (probably just as well since Sandy's swing was pretty much unique).

Re: Golf Books

Except of course, that not how he plays anymore........

Wouldnt take his word for what should happen in a club players swing. Its like a Formula 1 driver telling you how to drive a tractor....its essentially the same idea but on a much diminished scale.

Re: Golf Books

I too have several golf books - perhaps too many as they tend to lead to paralaysis by analysis. That aside David Leadbetter's "100% Golf" is my basic bible.
