gip question and top of backswing Please help, I'm right handed and use an interlocking grip.... OK heres the question. At address my right hand's "life line" rest nicely over my left thumb. During the backswing my right hand seperates from my left thumb, is this ok or should it be a snug fit and be keeping the left thumb covered through the whole swing. I can keep this from happening by making it very snug and getting my right hand further around the club but then I feel as if the buttend isn't resting in the fingers of my right hand. Please help, thanks,

Re: gip question and top of backswing Hi Vector, Your right thumb and pad won't influence the swing or position of the club face if they lift vertically. In which case you're fine. If it moves your wrist as well then you do have a problem because it will change your club face angle. Look, try to keep it resting on your left thumb if you can. If not, make sure you always stay comfortable and the right wrist firm.

Re: gip question and top of backswing i've had the same problem for awhile now... it is definitely an issue that i havent completely solved yet. if the two hands become separated at the top, your clubface will shut slightly, plus this forces you to regrip causing tension and maybe a little casting. ive tried moving my left hand farther down the grip (im a lefty golfer) so that my middle/ring fingers of my left hand can rest on the thumb pad of my left hand. this helps keep the hands together, but just doesnt look right. i hope somebody has had and solved this problem before!

Re: gip question and top of backswing Again, is this happening when you hinge your wrist? This would be because you are only hinging your top wrist. Or is it that you are pulling too much with your back arm (right for righties, left for lefties) and trying to slow down your club with your front arm, thus both hands are pulling in opposite directions, therefore seperating? Try swinging with no club in your hand (but hands in an interlock grip) and you should be able to determine which one is causing your seperation.

Re: gip question and top of backswing gord, thanks for your reply, I had a lesson and my instructor showed me a few things with my grip and corrected it. I also had a problem "letting go" with my last three fingers of my left hand extending my backswing a little more. Bad,bad bad. Its amazing what video can do. I never even knew till I saw it. thanks,
