Video analysis tools

Hi Guys,

What a nice website! Came across it yesterday and I'm sure i'll be returning often.

My question is about video analysis and which software you find works the best and also what DV cameras are the best to record the golf swing with?

I'm planning to invest in this and I want to do it right from the go.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks and remember to hit it where the mower runs.

Re: Video analysis tools

I use both the V1 software and CSwing software at the academy. They are both great BUT: Cswing has some great features that V1 doesn't have. For the price ... CSwing and if you can afford it get the swing library as well to give some options when you are doing comparisons.

CSwing for example lets you tag each clip with the club you're using, the quality of the swing, remarks, notes ... really great stuff. You can also organise them into libraries, club order ...

DV recorders: get one with a high pixel rate and adjustable shutter speed. You'll need around 4/1000's or 5/1000's to get a really good look and all cameras work on 60 frames per second but the shutter speed gives you added clarity and the pixelation gives you quality...

I hope this helps you. Any questions or problems - let me know.

Re: Video analysis tools

Graham, thanks for the info. I have to say that i'm very impressed with CSwing, espessially for the price. WHat version of V1 are you using? i see version 5.5 is out and it sounds like there are quite a few enhancements from the previous release.

By the way, at which academy are you?

Re: Video analysis tools

I have my own studio/academy called Kelrosa Golf Studios. Later this year I am moving to the UK (Reading) to setup there. It's going to be awesome ... the UK don't know what is in store for them. I'm spending a few hundred thousand pounds setting it up. Its about 400sqm (3600sq feet) of indoor golf studio.

I use the Pro version (not sure of what version x.x I am on now). I bought it first and only got to see CSwing later on and immediately switched. I do still use V1 but not that often.

V1 has some great tutorial stuff and video clips but over the last year or so I have been doing a lot of my own video tutorials ...

Re: Video analysis tools

Wow! that sounds awesome! Where are you based in South Africa? Are you keeping your academy going when you move? The golf industry in Europe is hot! Specifically the UK. There are a few indoor centres that opened in the last few years, but they are all doing very well from what I understand.

How is the industry in South Africa? Are you earning a good enough living doing what you love over there? I'm originally from SA and would love to go back at some stage and make a living out of teaching.

Re: Video analysis tools

I'm in Cape Town ...

Don't bother with SA, that's why I am moving to the UK. Golf is a very expensive sport here and golfers would much rather pay to play golf than go for lessons. There are only about 100,000 golfers in SA of which less than 15% play more than 1ce a month. So, we're dealing with a VERY small market. I do ok, but then I don't need the money I make from teaching. I am very lucky ...

I know the indoor centres do very well and golf is HUGE. In America the same ... golf is a big and people have the money to go for lessons.

Na, I'm closing Kelrosa down here, shipping some of the equipment and using it in Reading. It is just too expensive to do what I want to do ... I could never afford the sort of setup I want.

Hey, you ain't seen anything until I have finished the setup. It's going to be awesome! In all my travels around the world teaching, I've never seen anything like it. I've taken all the good ideas and some of my own and given them to the architects and interior designers...

Re: Video analysis tools

Well good luck to you on your adventures, may you conquer the UK

Please keep me informed on your progress, by PM of you like. i go over to the UK often enough and have some buddies over there that will support you.

Back on the subject of the video analysis tools, have you ever used GASP? I saw them at the golf show in Munich last year and I found it pretty impressive. They are based in the UK, so I'm sure you'll hear more of them once you are there.

Re: Video analysis tools

Thanks for the wishes. I know it will be hard work but I'm up for it!

I don't know a great deal about GASP other than having seen it a few times I didn't feel a "lekker" feeling about it so I opted for V1. If you want to know more about GASP, Peter Hudson (the Chairman of the Golf Teachers Federation of Great Britain) uses GASP. His website is www.yourgolfcoach.com I'm certain if you contact him, he'll gladly give some feedback. You can mention my name if you'd like, we know each other quite well.

If I did it again, I definately go straight for CSwing! No doubts about it.

BTW: Your best shot at Bellville was on the 11th. A great hole and there's a lekker par 5 to go after if you need to make up ground.
