Hitting Hybirds

HI i just had another post, but this is a question about hybirds.
I can hit my hybird fine off a tee, but i cant seem to get it to even go without a tee.
Does anyone have any tips or instructions on hitting the hybird without the tee.

THANKS

Re: Hitting Hybirds

I bet you hit your 7 through pw better then your long irons and woods right? If so it is more then likely the fact that you are hitting down on the ball a lot caused mostly by taking the club up too quickly and outside the target line. Try these few tips and see if it helps, when you are hitting balls imagine a line straight back from the ball parallel to the line your toes make toward the target, now start your backswing with the left shoulder not the hands, as you take the club away (slowly) make sure it travels back that line or slightly inside it (not outside), at the halfway point (shaft parallel to ground) you want the toe of the club pointing straight up then just turn your back on the target to complete the back swing, from the top you want to keep tight to your right side and not let the right shoulder come over the top try to keep your right elbow in tight to the right side, a drill that will help you get this feeling may help, put both feet completely together and hit a couple of balls you should feel that the club has to drop inside in order to stay in balance. It may sound like a lot to think about but just try to simplify it, 1- club comes back on or just inside target line, 2- turn back to target (let left knee come toward ball a little), 3- tight to the right coming down, 4- follow all the way through to ensure the clubhead keeps moving toward the target. I can not tell you how much it helps to swing long and slow as you do this.

Let me know if it helps

Hybrids are 'funny' things ... you need to hit them like an iron. Forget the fact that they have a larger head and feel and look like a wood.

Swing them like you would a 5-iron.

Re: Hitting Hybirds

And now for the contradictory voice...

I actually have more success with my hybrids hitting them with a sweep like I would a fairway wood - no divot.

Off the tee, off the deck, wherever - I shallow out my swing path and just watch the ball go.

That said, I have yet to try hitting down with my hybrids... something to try the next time spring rolls around and I can get to the driving range.

I may be eating my words!

Re: Hitting Hybirds

If you have trouble with the hybrids, try the smaller headed high lofted woods (Titleist 975F's are great) 19-25° lofts for example.

Hybrids are very awkward for some players because they arent psychologically comfortable with the unfamiliar looking heads. A lot of players expect miracles from them as well, which doesnt help. You probably need to determine what you are best using them for. Some players find they can only use them from tight lies and rough, some people use them best from normal fairway lies and off the tees.

Spend some time figuring this out or leave them out the bag and take a club that will help more, another wedge or another fairway wood.
