Angry Slice! Please help

Hi everyone.
I am new to this site and find it very helpful.

I have a big problem. I have a significant slice. Sometimes I hit the ball 45* from the target.

I have done the drill: just doing the back swing till the club is parallel with the ground and club head facing up. When I swing from here through to parallel to ground again (both times the club is parallel to the target) I hit the ball straight.

When I do the same drill, but cocking my wrists so that the club are vertical with the ground and arms still parallel with the ground, I slice the ball. This is the same with a full swing.
I think mu club path is outside inside as when I hit a divot it goes from right to left across the ball.

It also sometimes feel as if my forearms does not twist fast enough resulting in a open face upon contact.

It also feels as if my hands are in front of the clubhead when it hits the ball.

Does this makes sense?

If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

Regards
Jaco Barnard

Re: Slice! Please help

Hey Jaco.

Good read on your divot - it certainly indicates an out to in swing path.

Spend a few bucks on a couple lessons. The pro should be able to easily give you some drills to eliminate your outside in path.

Once your path is inside out (or in-square-in) then you get to experience a new host of problems

The main problem with slicing without seeing your swing is that there a number of things that could be the effecting problem. Are you standing too far away from the ball and reaching for it? Are you standing too close, leaving yourself no choice but to be outside in? Are you playing the ball too far forward in your stance? Is the clubface left open at impact?

All these things impart left-to-right sidespin on the ball, and when you start compounding them, you can hit a biiig banana ball.

Now for some more questions.

How active is your right side? When you've finished your swing, where is your clubface (open, closed, or square?) To check, bring your arms back around in front of you after you swing - your club should point to the sky for square. Leaning left is closed, right is open.

In the meantime, book a lesson or two. You've spent tons of cash on gear and balls, so lessons are relatively cheap!

Re: Slice! Please help

check these three drills:

http://www.golf-tuition-online.com/v...rticle.php?a=4
After this drill, as you start your downswing, drop your right elbow to your right hip and then accelerate through the ball.

These drills will get your backswing to the correct position at the top, get you started on an inside path, into the correct impact position and they should have your clubface square at impact.

Question Re: Slice! Please help

Thanx everyone for their input. I am considering a few lessons. I have posted a video of my swing on the site and would appreciate any comment. I used a six iron.

After my own humble analysis it seems as if I start going away from my body on the take away, not straight back with my arms and hands but out.
I also hit most of my shots very close to the heel (standing to close to the baLL??).

I also find that the shorter irons I hit straighter and is the iron gets longer, the slice increase. I only go up to a four iron and never use a wood at this point in time.

Thanx for all the help.

Regards
