Re: Help - Right Hand Swatting Just wondering Greg, I've taken lessons with various pros over the year but none have commented on utilizing the right hand the way you've described it. I'm not doubting your knowledge by any means. But is this cupped right hand supposed to be some sort of "tricks of the trade" that most pros don't teach to recreational golfers?

Re: Help - Right Hand Swatting Definatly not. This drill should be done as early as possible. As for other pro's, there are a lot of gagets out there that force this position: "Norman's Secret" that I talked about, putting a pencil in the left hand's glove to keep that wrist from swatting across the ball, there is the "Angel" that was more of a straight jacket for both arms, the "Medicus" with its hinged shaft that breaks if you go side to side, the "Refiner" a knockoff of the Medicus, and then there's Ledbetter who made a device similar to Norman's. Each teaching that the wrists hinge up and down, the arms stay connected within the chest and shoulder line, and that you should limit the hands lateral side to side motion. Does this mean that they are never allowed to move at all side to side? No. If you need to hook or slice the ball hard, then you do need this move available to you. This drill gets you good consistant ball striking that goes where you are aiming. My drill is just that, a drill that focuses on one aspect of one part of the swing that has one purpose. All good drills do this. p.s. Pro's have favored key points they like to focus on from which to build the swing. We all end up talking about the same things, eventually. There are so many parts of the game that you can spend a lifetime talking about. So it does not surprise me that you may not have heard this exactly this way before. It's why this site is here. I learn something from everyone every time I visit. Last edited by GregJWillis; 02-24-2005 at 02:54 PM.

Re: Help - Right Hand Swatting The only place I can find anything that this article is telling you that fits this thread is, "It is helpful to remember to turn the entire left arm closed through impact until the clubface is pointing at or near the ground well past the ball." Is this telling you to rotate your left arm independant of everything else?
