getting stuck, over the top using video,

Ok pros see if you can follow me on this one,

When looking at a pros swing, it seems as if the club is in the exact same position halfway down when parallel as when halfway up on the backswing.

If viewing downline and freezing the video halfway down,

if the club is inside his hands (between his body and hands) then he is stuck

if the club is outside the hands then he is over the top.

is this a correct analysis?

Actually Ian it was that post and video that led me down the path to asking that question. In looking at my video it indeed does seem as if my best shoots are when I return the club to the original position.


I was just wondering it this was a good checkpoint and to use and applying the terms stuck and over the top.

It seemsI have a tendency to let the club drop a little inside the hands, should I call it getting stuck? and outside as coming over the top? I know it sounds frugal but the problem is I don't want to tell you pros I'm getting stuck or coming over the top and using drills when in all actuality that isn't the case.

Well yeah, ideally the club should be in the same position on the way and down - that would put the swing "on plane". Most pro's do this fairly well provided they swing for it, which they rearly do becuase they normally work the ball one way or another on most shots..

When you "get stuck" it's an extreme position where the club gets behind the hands and body too far to the inside of the backswing swing path. Over the top is a position where the club gets outside the backswing swing path and hands on the way down to impact.
