Open Club face

Hi, when i swing right i have clean contact and hit the ball pretty well, but sometimes when i swing the same way my club face snaps open and the ball goes very little distance and extremely to the right. To fix this problem i try tightening my grip it doesnt work, or i try to tighten a little left to close my club face and it hooks.
Any help or tips,

thanks.

Re: Open Club face

Hi Ali

I suffer from the same push/slice problem occasionally too and its usually because of 2 things

1. Dont hold the club tightly, it needs to be very light tension to allow your arms and wrists to naturally release through the ball

2. Dont hit at the ball. Start your downswing with a gentle weight shift and then a split second later just concentrate on swinging the club high, to a full finish. It helps here sometimes to put yourself in a good finish position to start with to remind yourself what it should feel like. Keep your head behind the ball and just swing up and around

Do point 2 with loose wrists in point 1 and you should release the club properly and not hold on to it through impact

Re: Open Club face

A hosel rocket is a shank.

Pnearn, I don't think we're talking about a block or push - low, short, and right is a shank.

The cause of a shank is usually hitting the ball off the heel where the face meets the hosel - hence hosel rocket - and can be caused by standing too close to the ball.

Re: Open Club face

i dont stand close to the ball, i think maybe the club is to long for me but when i choke it down i lose distance, i need to know how to consistentaly hit this iron fine without "Shanking" it. Because i am doing the same swing but this "shank" often happens.

Re: Open Club face

The sole of your club should lie flat on the ground and your arms should hang naturally from your shoulders. If your set up is like that, you need to adjust so that it does. If your clubs won't allow you to set up like that, take them into your local clubfitter to have them adjusted.

What part of Canada are you from? I might know a good fitter in your area....
