Feet Pressure on Downswing

I have been having some trouble lately 'staying down' and level in my backswing, which straightens my right leg somewhat and lifts me up a bit, meaning im hitting the ball a little thin

Tried yesterday the feeling of applying downward pressure with my right foot as I swung back, almost feeling like I was cork-screwing into the ground. It immediately felt strange, like I was far too low but it did serve to really feel my coil tighten

Anyhow I then started hitting the best shots I have all year .. funny old game eh

Does anyone else do this move? Is it a temporary fix or something I should keep working on?

Re: Feet Pressure on Downswing

Pnearn,

You are spot on this is the exact feeling you should have.......screwing your right foot clockwise into the ground.....this creates resistance in your right side adding power to your swing.

If you squat with a club across your chest like a weight lifter and practice turning with the knees flexed you will soon get used to this feeling.

You are right of course it drives you mad too.......

Ian.

I'll second that approval. The more tension you can build up on the backswing with your coil, the more power you are building, which will be released during the downswing as you uncoil.

Re: Feet Pressure on Downswing

So does anyone actually deliberately use the feet for leverage in this way, in that you feel on the backswing you turn down into your feet, and then turn from the feet up on the downswing ?

Re: Feet Pressure on Downswing

Spot on........

The exact feeling I feel is........from the moment of takeaway I relax completley for about the first 2 feet of the backswing....then suddenly stop the bottom from turning by using the right foot also making sure not to move any further off the ball.

You should feel the tight coil in your sides....then just let it go.

Hope this helps

Ian.

You do sound like you have it.

Re: Feet Pressure on Downswing

Onve you have mastered swinging from the bottom up you will notice a HUGE difference in your game. Explosive power and distance, as well as improved accuracy. This will not come immediately, but you will notice a difference after a few months.

Gord

Can you explain the pitfalls and difficulties one may find in trying to master that move? From your experience? So as I can know thats an effect and not a cause when im trying to get it down

Re: Feet Pressure on Downswing

One of the biggest problems is the move from backswing to downswing. Many feel the need to 'push off' too much. This throws their body too far towards the target or they stand up, creating a thinned shot or a completely whiff!

Check out my drill for starting the downswing:

Good luck and let kme know if you need any further advice!
