Soaring Ball flight I am a frequent and decent golfer and I notice one thing that I rarely ever achieve that every good player has is that soaring "shhhhhhhhhhh" the ball makes as it takes off from the club whether it is a wood or iron. My question is, what makes that happen? I tell myself it's solid ball striking, but sometimes I will strikes the thing perfectly with the driver taking it over 300, but still there is rarely ever that soar. Anyone know what the deal is and how you get that soft sound?

Re: Soaring Ball flight I believe that whooshing noise has to do with the dimples on the ball. I bet old, worn out balls won't make that noise. What makes that noise? I'm no expert but I reckon it's made when you put top spin on the ball, thus causing the ball to draw. Try putting more top spin on your next practise. You should hear the soaring sound.

Re: Soaring Ball flight Do your playing partners hear it? I dont think its to do with drawing because i've seen alot of pros fade the ball, and there sound was as "swishin" as ever. Its definitely ball striking. Its the old thing bout lag, if you got it then u got your sound probably. Some of that sound your talkin bout comes from a divot im sure (the iron sound). But i'd ask your playign partners because it could just be you aint hearing it cuz concentrations else where

Re: Soaring Ball flight I've been told by playing partners that the ball makes this sound when I strike it. However, I honestly don't hear it myself. It is possible that the sound is directional when the ball make this sound. We are talking about lift and aerodynamics so it could be similar to an airplane wing cutting through air. So, behind and in front of the ball path will get little perceived sound but beside, above and below will be able to perceive the sound quite clearly.
