clubface always closed at address

Hi
I am Rahul and I just joined golfonline recently. I have been suffering from a problem for quite some time now. 60% of the times when i grip the club i feel my clubface is closed at address and Just know i am going to hit a wild hook and i always end up doing it. I know my grip is not too strong. Some people told me that i probably need toed out clubs to alleviate this problem.
However if I grip the club weak then i feel very comfortable and the club does not feel closed and i hit beautifully but then my coach always tells me that i am gripping the club too weak and he makes it a little neutral again.....and thats when the whole clubface closed problem starts again even though my grip is now absolutely neutral.
Please Help!!!!!!!!

Hi Rahul,

You should address the ball with the club first and the face "square" to the target and "THEN" set your grip after the clubface is behind the ball.

This way you will have either strong, neutral, or weak grip, the club face will always be square to the target.

Hope this helps.

Ian.

Re: clubface always closed at address

For me, the body and club leading edge alignments are probably the most important things in golf. If you set up correctly with everything lined up squarely the shot will fly relatively straight and for quite some distance even if your swing is mediorce. The setup is the aspect of the swing I spend the most time on.

First I stand behind the ball and view the target line. I look for a mark along the target line about 4 feet in front of the ball.

Next I go and take up the address by placing my right foot directly behind the ball whilst simultaneously placing the clubhead behind the ball too making sure the leading edge is square to the mark 4 feet in front of the ball. I then adjust my feet so they are square to the club's leading edge.
