Apparently Pro's have 'lag' in their swing?

Can any of you pros explain what it is and how I would be able to achieve it ? I have an idea but if some one would clarify it for me plz.

on the takeaway, have your wrists fully cocked before your arms are parallel to the ground. release your hands at the same point on the downswing.

Thats a fascinating insight. Thanks for taking the time to share with us. Ive been working on releasing the lag earlier in the downswing to 'shallow it out' somewhat. I want to feel as is the club is moving in a U shape rather than a V as I think the V is very difficult to time correctly as you suggest. Sure its more power but you have spot on with your body/arm sequencing. For me, if I pull the club down to the ground and let it travel lower to the ground before making contact with the ball (the shallower U shape) I keep the clubface squarer for longer which gives me slightly less distance but a whole lot more accuracy

The trick for me is not casting and not getting back to the V where I find unless my swing is falt and my left wrist very flat or even bowed I push the ball right

Do you have any advice/drills that would help with an objective such as this?

I tried what you said, but I would appreciate it if you could tell me step by step what to do in a full swing to get lag.

not to beat a dead horse, but check out Greg Willis right hand drill, this is the lag you are referring to

Ok, so could you succintly explain how you would have a student grip the ball in a standard swing. Including left thumb and right hand (plus visible knuckles)

I posted a while back how i experimented hitting balls with the left thumb off the shaft altogether ( and resting between the 2nd and 3rd fingers of the right hand). Had some good results with this on the range but havent trusted myself to do this (or the short thumb) on the course for fear of losing control?
