| Fast takaways are usualy caused by the hands being the first thing to take the club back. Is this one of the things you are doing? If so, I can garentee that if you take the club back with your shoulder turn only, then you cannot take it back too fast. You just can't turn the shoulders that fast. Once you get the club parallel, and the shooulders are fully rotated, then you can let the arms and hands begin to raise and set. The downswing is almost the same issue. If you are starting the swing from the top with your hands, then that will cause the quickness you are expierencing. Here, you want to start the swing at the top with your hip turn, then the shoulders, then the arms drop, then last your hands can fire. This is a subtle difference that you may not feel correctly at first and think you are doing it correctly. But until you do it right, you will feel that you do not need to be quick with anything at all. Even the hands at the bottom of the swing can feel smooth. The position at the bottom of the swing you are looking for is that hips have completly rotated around BEFORE you strike the ball. Your shoulders have fully rotated around BEFORE you hit the ball. This is a very powerful position to be in. Your hands have to wait until this all gets to those positions. So work on those two items and see if that helps. |

| Blimey, That's a new swing nearly...I'll give it a go. I went for a lesson this evening and he gave me this drill where I put a club across my shoulders, hold it there with my hands...arms crossed and just rotate the shoulders, much like your better pivot drill but standing up. It so hard to get this into the swing though. I am starting to hit the ground before the ball aswell. How can I remedy this? Thanks a lot for all your help.
