fundamentals for iron play...

i am having difficulty hitting with my irons. i played this evening and nothing seemed to be getting airbourne.

what fundamentals should i be aiming for when setting up for the irons.?

weight on my right side,
hands just in front of ball
90* turn of shoulders
any more...

also would a glove that is too big affect my game? it's just i have just purchased a new glove and it doesnt fit snug. i have small hands and find it difficult to find a glove that fits snug
