this is a very frustrating game, last week it was irons perfect driver bad, this week driver perfect irons bad!

my irons are going left( im a right hander), they dont so much bend left they fly straight left, im guessing its my club head angle on impact but i dont know, any suggestions?

Hi Doogkie,

Your problem could be swing path. If you are pulling the ball, which means an out-to-in swing path with a club face that is square to the new swing path.
To fix it is quite easy there are a number of drills to use, but you may like you to start with this one because the pull is quite 'small' and you need to do is redirect the club inside a little:

1. Setup to the ball and check your fundementals, alignement etc. Next, without moving your torso, pull your right foot back until your toes are level with your left heel. You should have a quite substantial closed stance.
2. Now hit golf balls practicing like this, focusing on bringing the club back on "the line" (swing path) that is parallel to your toes.
3. Don't throw the club at the top, don't let your shoulders turn left pulling the club outside-to-in - let it drop natually as you drop your right elbow into the right hip.

Focus on not letting the shoulders dominate the swing.

I think this is a great drill and hopefully will sort your pulling out.

Ian.

Interesting. My coach uses the exact same drill to try to cure us of slicing and pushing...

yeah sounds like you are coming over the top and swinging out to in.
I find I do this if I am gripping the club very tightly in an effort to achieve "lag", swing easy and shake hands with the target.

Turning my right hand over (weakening the grip) works nicely for me.

I dont like breaking something else to make up for/mask another problem
Unless you had a strong grip and you are making it neutral you should be trying to solve the underlying problem, in my opinion anyways.

Re: irons pulling left...frustrating!!!

thanks for the tips, ill try it out tomorrow.

i think i was also being lazy in my swing, cause like i said my driver has gotten more accurate and thats from shortening the swing, with the irons i need to swing more forward extending my arms, i reckon anyways

Re: irons pulling left...frustrating!!!

i tried your tip today and that solved it, and while i was hitting my wedges i realized i was coming over the top with them to get them in the air higher so all that practicing with the wedge like that did this
