| Re: impact I think most classic instruction refers to full extension of both arms only after impact. This infers a bent right elbow at impact. If you follow baseball, you'll notice in slow motion that the power hitters all have their trailing arm bent at impact. This is the position that allows them to transfer the most power into the ball.
I think instructors don't focus on the rear elbow at impact because it is easier to visualize full extension after impact instead of a specific elbow position at impact. That elbow position may be different for everyone but still bent.
