Breathing during a swing?

I am trying to figure out how to breath during a golf swing. Just to make it the same way every time. I have practiced karate a long time and in karate before or while hitting, one makes a "kiay". Also weightlifters shout when lifting max weights.
Golf is not about maximum strength, but still breathing and use of core muscles interests me. Does anyone have any thoughts on inhale – out hale or keeping the pressure inside?

Re: Breathing during a swing?

I advocate having empty lungs during the swing process. 2 deep breaths during your setup, and a long exhale during the waggle. Then swing.

Not gospel, everyone is different. But the freedom the empty lungs and relaxed chest I get helps my flexability in my chest/shoulder rotation.

yeah, if you have to fart, do not keep that pressure inside. A fart will mess up a good golf swing in a hurry and you may hit a shank or you may rip a stank. However, if you do rip it right before impact it can give your ball an added boost, so timed right this can be a deadly combo.

I would tend to think that an exhale during the downswing would be the best possible way, but that might be very hard to learn. I would go with Gregs reccomendation.

Re: Breathing during a swing?

I did a google search with "breathing", "golf", "Swing". Looks like breathing can be a good way to get your thoughts together and find a tempo for ones swing.

I will test exhale tommorrow in our new training range. http://www.albatrosshalli.com/index.php

Maybe breathing is just something to concentrate on so that your muscles can do the swing with out too much thinking?

Re: Breathing during a swing?

I tried different versions of breathing. My experience was that nothing works the first time. I need more time to make it as a routine. I will continue with exhale during a swing and try also first exhale and then swing.
