balls going to right consistently

the last few times ove been out my irons have all been going to the right consistently the same distance for each iron, my LW, SW PW and 9i all go dead straight but when i get to my 8 iron its a little to the right of my intented target then my 7 is a little more.... all down to my 3i which going aout 30 yards right, its consistent though so im thinking aout today just aiming to the left for the appropriate club

what i am asking is what is causing this, its not a slice or anything its like my club face is open, anyway to fix this, drills?

thanks alot

Re: balls going to right consistently

Well this is called a Push. You are either sliding forward slightly which causes the ball's position to be more in the back of your stance, and when your club is comming into the ball, it just is not quite around square. Or, you are comming too far inside-out on the swing path and not getting around enough with your hands. (You can tell I hate that one more, because you have to create more of a hand-release action to fix this one...I would fix the inside-out path instead and leave the hands alone). To fix the first one, it is the idea of staying behind the ball. Careful not to reverse pivot to stay back, but to keep the weight going forward and turn - rotationally and not throwing your hips toward the target.

Re: balls going to right consistently

i went today and made sure i aimed left and shot my usual low 40s for 9, ive been shooting high 40s and low 50s with this epidemic, the weird thing is that i was pulling them to the left not to long ago, oh well i guess i just gotta play to how im swinging that day

i tried your comment and it wasnt much helping because i do stay behind the ball, i was hitting with some old clubs with no offset and it wasnt nearly as bad

Re: balls going to right consistently

are you moving the ball further up in your stance with the longer clubs?

Re: balls going to right consistently

My bad shot is a push and it may be because you are sliding in the downswing rather than turning. When this happens to me I cant clear my hips at impact meaning the clubface is open

The reason this happens to me is becuase I start sliding in the backswing. Then to get into impact I have to slide back

The thoughts that helps me cure this is twofold. Firstly bow your legs in the backswing especially the left leg to make sure it doesnt collapse in. There should still be the same gap between your knees at the top as there was at address (or at least feel as if there was). This stops the hips from sliding and from over rotating. The second is to build resistance in the backswing by feeling as though you are pushing your feet into the ground as you turn. This helps build leverage and maintains your spine angle and posture

Re: balls going to right consistently

One other thing re: sliding. Make sure you set up with 60% of the weight on your back foot, this encourages a full turn behind the ball. If you set up with more weight on the lead leg you have to slide/sway to transfer the weight during the takeaway
