Sliding through impact --Need help!!

My friend and I noticed that I was sliding into the ball at impact and not turning into the ball. The only way for me to feel this correctly was to invision turn my right hip at the ball on the way up to the top of my backswing. Will this create more problems or am I one the right track??????

Re: Sliding through impact --Need help!!

I mentioned this in another thread but the main reason you slide into the ball is because you slide/sway in your backswing. This in my case is caused by over rotation of the hips

I think people slide in a misguided attempt to build width. Width is not how far away from the ball the clubhead is but how far away it is from your body

Try and feel in your backswing that you stay centered over the ball (you swing around a stable head and spine) and that only your shoulders turn back. Try and stop your hips from turning with your shoulders and also stop your left knee from collpasing in

Most people will find that cant the club anywhere near parallel becuase they arent flexible enough and indeed the compact swing with a stretch in the back muscles is what you are looking for. From here, you are still centered over the ball and you dont need to slide forward to get back to impact

HTH

Re: Sliding through impact --Need help!!

Thanks,
I was watching the golf channel and noticed that everyone was rotating down toward the ball-- which made me realize that I did not do that. I went and hit balls and concentrated on getting to the top and thinking of firing my right hip at the ball instead of pulling down with my left hand and WOW I really could tell the difference in ball flight and crispness of the shots that I was hitting. It may be wrong but for the first time in a long time I really felt like I could attack the ball by thinking of firing my right hip at the ball.

Do you think this is a bad idea?

Hi Eddie,

A very simple drill is the 'Table Drill'

Set up with your left hip against a table and swing...................you will not slide.

Ian.

Ian.
A great piece of advice, Ian. On the range leave the table at home and use an umbrella - a great drill I use often.
