Talk to me about weight shift

Is the weight shift a gradual thing (through out the swing), or do you go to your left foot at the start of the DS.

Re: Talk to me about weight shift

The weight should go almost 100% to your front foot as soon as you start your downswing. This helps increase the power of your downswing as your hips pull your upper body through the impact zone. Your left leg acts as a pivot for your hips to rotate around, therefore you need a very solid base to rotate around. You couldn't rotate around your left leg (for righties) on the downswing if your weight wasn't concentrated on your left leg.

If you try to rotate without weight on your front foot, you will see that you are falling away from the target. Most importantly, instead of your hips pulling your upper body though the impact zone, your hips would rotate away from the target around your back leg. This will lead to you creating your swing speed with only your arms.
