driving with the heel

With my driver, the ball always impacts at the heel. My drives are short, usually right around 210yds, and go off to the left. I am a lefty. I seem to brush the ground with the club behind the ball, then smack the ball with the heel. A had a golf friend look at my swing plane, he said it looked o.k., then proceeded to give me advice that made thing worse. Can anybody give me some tips, or something to look for? Thanks.

Since your arms are more stretched out in the downswing compared to setup, addressing more on the toe to compensate is not a bad thing. As anything in golf: if it works for you go for it.

Re: driving with the heel

you should not be hitting the ground before the ball. Sounds like you may have an upright swing with an over the top move.
check the basics, especially aligment and ball position. Ball should be off the left heel. place a directional club between you and the ball. Try hitting the ball without grounding the club at address and hit off an elevated tee. if you notice your hitting the ball on the top part of the driver, you need to work on flattening your swing.

Re: driving with the heel

Try hitting some drives with your weight on your right heel if you are right handed and you can even exxagerate it by lifting your right toe off the ground a little.
