| Restricted backswing Background - I am 66, play to a handicap in the 7-9 range. I played as a kid, but only returned to the game about 8 years ago. In looking at videos of my swing, it seems to me that I have several faults! - Forward press before take away - Club face goes back very square and probably too far inside. - I get jammed up and at times, my clubs are pointing skyward at top of swing. - It looks like I cast the club when starting my downswing. I can hit my drives about 250 yds this way and irons go quite well - about 155yds for a 7-iron. I tend to draw the ball. But, it seems to me that I should be able to improve my swing and become more consistent. I have attempted to upload my swings, but will have to wait and see if the upload was successful. Any comments on what I should work on to improve my swing are welcomed! Thanks for the great site - I have been away for quite a while. |

| Re: Restricted backswing I like your swing, compact and you go through the ball realy well. the only thing I notice is on the front view - I don't think you are getting your shoulders behind the ball and maybe slightly in front of the ball at the top of the backswing. maybe a slight reverse pivot which is why you might get stuck at times. Flexibility may be a factor in this this. See if the pros agree on this site. |

I think that the forward press may be excessive. It perhaps causes the club to go back inside and also prevents a full wrist cock. But, I am no expert either - I do look forward to hearing what the pros think! Thanks for your input. Last edited by agent99; 03-21-2006 at 01:11 PM. |

| Re: Restricted backswing Went out and hit some balls today (Balmy 7deg C in Ontario, Canada!) - I tried a few things - Less forward press, wider arc, eliminate slight reverse pivot, take club out more outside and not so closed. Only reducing the press seemed to improve my shots. I should get pro to have a checkoiut but nothing is open here yet. I had a few comments from msklar that were helpful, but would appreciate any additional ideas and suggestions as to how to improve my swing. Main objective would be to improve consistency. I generally draw ball, but sometimes block iron shots to right. With driver, I am usually quite straight with slight draw but occasionally come out of shots and do a big push/fade. A bit more distance wouldn't hurt. Here are 5-iron swings (driver shots are in Golf gallery) http://www.golf-tuition-online.com/v...3/limit/recent http://www.golf-tuition-online.com/v...4/limit/recent |
