squaring the club face at impact

I have a very consistent problem in that my hands are ahead of the clubhead at impact which is leaving the clubface open, this results in the ball starting off ok then veering right. This happens about 80% of the time. Are there any drills i can practice to get the club face around quicker and square at impact. Could this be my wrists/lower arm not turning enough through the swing?

Re: squaring the club face at impact

Try the L-to-L drill:
Backswing until your arms are parallel to the ground and the club is perpendicular to the ground. Swing forward, hitting a ball if you are at the range, stopping when your arms are again parallel to the ground and the club is perpendicular. Make sure you try to get your arms and the club to the second L at the same time (rather than stopping your arms at parallel and letting the club catch up). The key is to get a quick wrist release, and a full release will ensure that you aren't getting stuck with an open clubface. You still might slice or hook, but this will ensure that it is a timing error rather than getting stuck.

Hope this helps!

Re: squaring the club face at impact

Your hands should be ahead of the clubhead at impact, but the club is probably lagging too far behind maybe because youve got disconnected and too armsy on the way back
