| Re: shut club More then likely you were trying to play with a weak grip, hands turned to the left, with V's pointing at your chin. By hooding the club, you managed to get into a more correct grip, basically you fooled your self. If you rotate the club back to square after you grip it, you will probably see the V's pointing at the right shoulder as it should be, and you will think this grip is much to strong, but you already proofed it wasn't. Almost all new or high handycappers I see are playing with a grip that is too weak. So go with it...lol..as a 12 I would have thought you would be over this by now..lol..but it is really easy to get lazy with your grip regardless of handycap. | Re: shut club I don't really agree with GoNavy - because we don't know any facts about your grip - you might well have a good grip. By closing your club face, that doesn't necessarily change your grip. But one thing WE DO KNOW FOR A FACT is that by feeling that you're hitting with a closed club face you got good results. So, let's start from there ... by 'closing' your club face through the swing, you're definately getting a more powerful impact than you would with an open club face or a square club face. That's a golfing fact. More than likely, by closing the club face you were enabling a better release by rotating the forearms to close the club face ... and that is what you are supposed to do. You might well find, and this is a teaching fact, by closing the club face you might well have been squaring it up or closing it ever so slightly, not nearly as much as you might think. I think you may have discovered a swing thought that works for you and you should go with it. I don't think it is necessarily a band-aid thing ... just keep it in your memory bank, write it on your scorecard so you see it all the time ... if it works run with it and it'll become second nature.

| Re: shut club Thanks for the advice fellas....yes i do play off 12 but i am constantly tweaking things here and there which is what keeps my mind active, this helps me when my swing just isn't there! i'll usually have something to fall back on to grind it out....true maybe just a quick fix but then i dont have lessons so the only way i can get a true indication from what i'm working on is from you guys!!!With this issue in particular my left thumb is straight down the middle of the grip i would of thought this to be neutral not weak! but weaker than what i am used to so maybe i should stay with it at least while it's working......thanks again ....watch this space |
