Agree with a lot of what you say there. Especially Hogans 'secrets'

I too have kind of given up mechanics and learnt to swing by feel. I mostly follow the principles of Ernest Jones and Jimmy Ballard (if you follow his 7 principles you cant go wrong IMO). Good setup, connected turn, lower body move, right side release. Thats it

Here's one of my favourite articles about how the PGA hated Ballard because he said the connected golf swing was so very simple much to the aghast of guys like Flick and Leadbetter who grossly overcomplicate things.

I go read some of the posts on that Manzella site and its like rocket science. The swing isnt and shouldnt be that complicated as you say

BTW I dont find your posts harsh at all. I might not always agree with you but such a forum should be a place for open debate, there is no right or wrong here. Ask ten people about the swing you'll get 10 different answers.

Re: Takeaway Problems solved

About the manzella site, they break it down into rocket science but that actually helps me to clarify and then from there I can simplify. The purpose of the golfing machine is to find YOUR swing and that simplifies it all. My instructor, whom is rarely needed anymore, is a golfing machine guy. in four months we have completely changed my understanding of the golf swing, and completely changed my golf swing. In the past three weeks I have had 4 drives that where 330+, of course the wind was helping but without the wind they would be over 300, nothing like reaching a short par 5 in 2 with a short iron

Re: Takeaway Problems solved

My limited knowledge of Kelly and TGM was that his basic dictum was that lag was the secret of the swing. In his view all the following downswing actions and positions: lead knee buckle, vertical drop, sit down move, trail elbow dropping to trail side, proper hip movement, upper , club shaft covering the trail forearm, trail forearm on the proper plane, ete etc are the result of, not the cause of, this lag fundamental

And lag is simply caused by 1) getting into the right top of swing position and 2) the constant acceleration of the clubhead on the downswing

Is this about right?
