Question on position of club and ball when driving?

I was watching a DVD recently ("Mike Jacobs' Explosive Golf") and one of his tips sounded a little strange. I wondered if anyone has heard this or tried this (with or without success).

He suggests that in order to align your driver correctly, you should simulate impact (body, club, ball) and then just drop the driver down to the ground from there and that's would be the position from which you would start your backswing.

He believes that if your driver is aligned with the ball right in the center,
then you have to make a certain number of adjustments on your downswing to get things lined up correctly.

In the DVD you can see that his driver is clearly aligned in a way that makes it look like the ball is not in the center of the club face. It's at least a ball's width further away from the center of the driver than I would expect it to be.

I tried this (briefly) at the range and was surprised to see my balls go straight. I really expected them to fly to the right.

Just wondered if anyone had any experience with this?

Thanks in advance!
