What causes a massive sky shot ? My Dad's been doing these. A skyed 3 wood tee shot that going goes about 40 yards. At the driving range he said he even hit the roof with a ball. I was wondering what could cause a shot like that ? Thanks !

Re: What causes a massive sky shot ? Teeing it too high, and hitting directly under the ball where the very top of the club clips the very bottom of the ball. Driving range tees are all stuck at that hight so find one that fits (where 1/2 the ball is on top of the club at address)

Re: What causes a massive sky shot ? Yes, tee could be too high. However, it is also possible the you are casting from the top and the left wirst is broken down by the time you are at impact position. Try some 1/2 shots with the 3 wood making sure your left wrist is flat at the ball. There should be a straight line from the left arm down through the club. You still may get underneath it a little, but should not be a skyed shot.

Re: What causes a massive sky shot ? golf is a game of opposites. Greg is right teeing the ball too high could cause a skyed shot but on the other hand teeing the ball too low could do it as well. If you tee the ball too low then you will have too much of a decending blow and hit the ball high on the clubface. It can also work the other way around if you tee the ball too high you could hit low shots becasue you consiously know that it is teed too high and you hit the bottom of the club.

Re: What causes a massive sky shot ? Can't imagine ever a sky with a low teed ball, unless you completly top it and the ball bounces straight down then pops straight up, but it won't go very high... Have your Dad look at the top of his club...I guarentee there are scratches along the top... I hate that. I never allow anyone to use my driver or 3w. If they sky one, and mark it, I just sell the club. I can't look at that when I setup. Every time you see it, makes you think about it ![]()
