set up right and save shots!

learnt a valuable lesson tonight!
take your time to set up your grip, stance, alignment and posture and go through your pre shot routine and you will bring down your scores!
i played 18 holes on saturday morning and just couldnt get into it.
after a while i think complacency sets in and you rush your set up. result bad shot! anyway that was me on saturday and i shot 121! thats a nett 25 over par for me
i studied pgapros posture drill and was determined to focus on set up in my round tonight suffice to say i really enjoyed a good round hitting many solid shots and carded a 90 thats nett 6 under par.
just checking the set up saved me 31 shots!

Slats, spot on! Now combine your set up with a million other things and you will have it crackd!

Re: set up right and save shots!

it becomes second nature so after time, you will be able to simplify the amount of things you have to consider. After 45 years of playing, I now only think: rhythm/balance

nice one shooting. you wish LOL
obviously my post was aimed at high handicappers ike myself who dont always check the fundamentals properly and it is costly because of wasted strokes

actually, nickalaus said the set up was 90% of the golf swing so he now only needs to combine it with 100,000 things and he will have it cracked

Re: set up right and save shots!

Slats

You are so right. I recently spent a year rebuilding my swing (to take the arms and hands out) and I quickly found that getting setup right was probably 75% the major requirement to make a good swing

If youre in the right position to start with you can simpky turn your connected arms and shoulders back and be on plane and from the top you can unwind your body (legs, hips, chest) with minimal tension and the arms just fall into the back of the ball. Every time

The minute your setup is off you are having to make compensations with your downswing

I would hazard a guess that 90% of mid-high handicappers dont setup to the ball properly and it is something I continually have to work hard at

hi paul that was the point i was making!
i have realised that you cant be nonchalant about your set up.
obviously i had and it was showing in many badly hit shots and ultimately my scores!
proved a point last night. first tee all 3 partners rushed set up with driver all end up stuck behind trees on adjacent fairway. i took 3 iron checked every thing, light grip, easy swing im bang in line with pin nice pitch on and 1 putt for birdie 3! partners bogey, bogey, bogey
