Long iron strike.

I have recently posted about my problem hitting 5 iron 4 iron etc. I spent the evening on the range and concentrated on a cupped left wrist as well as pulling the club down on the inside. The result has been terrific and has instilled a new understanding in my swing thoughts. I try to picture the back of my left hand coming down into the ball which seems to have the desired effect. Hope this info helps anyone with the same problem.
Regards,
Robert

Re: Long iron strike.

I am struggling with anything longer than a 6 iron. Alot of the time i cant get a clean strike and when i do its a slice. I just cant seem to get inside. What do you mean by cupped left wrist? I thought the left wrist was supposed to be straight at the top?

Re: Long iron strike.

I keep wanting to SWEEP my long irons, but the results aren't the greatest. Lately though, my iron play has been incredible - with better shoulder turn and with the thought of a rubberband pulling my left leg back has really helped open up my hips to promote a FADE than my usual SLICE.

For my irons I've been really focusing on hitting DOWN on the ball, but it's really hard to do with the long irons for some reason - I'm always afraid that I'll get the club stuck in the ground or something

Re: Long iron strike.

Hi Matt,
I know what you mean. In my post I referred to a cupped wrist, rather than flat. I should have said flat. I concentrate on the feeling of getting my left hand down as it went up i.e. as if hitting the back of the ball with the back of my left hand. This seems to work.Regards, Robert
