Wrist cock again.

Hi Guys,

I posted recently about my teachers advice on wrist cock and getting it cocked at the right knee with the club paralell and the toe pointing upward. I spent an hour this evening working on this and am totally convinced that his is the key to a good strike. Where before I would not dream of trying to hit 4 or 3 iron with confidence, after this drill....WOW! It took a while to put this into motion, but believe me by persisting with this drill the quality of the strike is tremendous. I hope that I am correct in this suggestion, and that it may help others.

That shows the value of going for a lesson with a qualified professional. One lesson, a small investment but a huge difference to your golf game. Well done!

I keep telling my Dad to go for some lessons but he refuses all the time. He comes up with lame excuses -"It won't do any good" - for example and then complains when his golf game is poor.
I don't understand why.

If you dad is not wanting to go to a pro, I can safely say that the reason is he's scared he'll have one lesson, then be told he needs a lot more!

Try getting him to read a couple of books first... I suggest "The Fundamentals of Hogan" by David Ledbetter and "The Modern Fundamentals of Golf" by Ben Hogan.

But ultimatly, in my opinion a pro will want to change your dads swing to one he's comfortable teaching, not nessarcerily one that "fits" him better.

As is being discussed on the swingsetter thread, an early wrist set really does help the club stay connected and zip around the body

JPMoneky - You have a point. Maybe my Dad doesn't take golf that seriously and doesn't want to go thru the ordeal of lessons. I have been for several lessons myself and I must say all but one have been a waste of time. However playing poor golf is no fun and I'm sure My Dad would enjoy golf better he got lower scores.

Maybe I can convince him in the next few weeks !

It's not a waste of "time" that concerns me, a waste of "money" does. At a minimal of $65 per hour I have no way to ensure that the golf pro I might pick will actually be a good teacher.

A friend of mine took a few lessons and from what that guy taught him I wouldn't pay $5. I'm going to continue trying to work with reading tips and instructions from people like s4par. If I don't get any better then I'll consider an instructor but am not ready to risk the cash yet.

I would suggest that any golfer who says they've never thrown a club is either a liar or a poser. To all of you "gentlemen golfers" out there, respectively..

I have a group of friends coming to Ireland next Month; can you meet them and help them get started on the right courses, ie provide Caddies, Limos, and Women/drink so they have a really good time???

no problem with courses, caddies,etc the rest i might have trouble with.
Are you serious about these people coming? If so, i would be delighted to help.
