Advice about Balls?

Everyone knows there is a difference between a range ball full of smiles, and a a brand new Titleist pro VI, but is there a specific type of ball one should play relative to thier game?

For example: My clubhead speed is very fast (119.5 average over 40 swings), and my backswing is fairly short.

Is there a particular type of ball (brand, hardness etc.) that would be benificial to play for this type of swing?

Does it matter whether teeing off with a driver or with a 7 iron?

Re: Advice about Balls?

WOW,

Now I am really stumped, with a short backswing and 120mph you should be very consistant, not struggling with distance inconsistancies.

You may be using a poor ball for this type of swing which I think you have recognised by posting this thread.

Try the Prov1 x a good solid ball for the harder hitters, and throw away all the other rubbish ones away.

Re: Advice about Balls?

Ian,

yeah i posted in the other thread as well, that i rarely use the same type of ball in consecutive rounds. I generally only check to see if they are clean. Didnt know that a ball could make that much difference.

thanks

Re: Advice about Balls?

Thats good,

You see we always get to the bottom of a problem.

The Prov1 X is quite expensive but if you hit straight and know your distances I am sure you will get more joy than lost balls.

Re: Advice about Balls?

Ian,

Thanks alot. the ProV Ix is a titelist? I have a buddy here that has decided to interject and said the Nike One was a good ball for hard hitters and might be a tad cheaper. Any thoughts?

Re: Advice about Balls?

Yes,

Titilest PROV1 X would be my choice for you, but I use the PROV1 softer version.

Try and go for a Good reputable ball Nike is fine as is Callaway, but read the box and look for swing speed on the back.

Unfortunatley you have the speed of a great golfer and you will have to pay the price for that in your ball costs.

Sorry

Re: Advice about Balls?

Speed of a great golfer?

Unfortunately I have the scores of an average golfer (86-90 range).

thanks again for the advice.

Re: Advice about Balls?

Funny

Not when you settle down with a consistant ball, your scores will tumble............on a serious note your putting will improve alot too with a good ball, it will feel a lot better off the face with a good ball.

I am excited for you..............!!

Ok...now look what you've done! I feel like shutting the factory down early today. Plenty of daylight left for the front 9!

Re: Advice about Balls?

I sometimes feel the same, this game is almost like an addiction.

How many times do you get to the end of a round and discover some feeling that works and then you can't wait till next time.

I suggest you buy some balls on the way home and have a putting session on the carpet at home, or just shut and play.

It's only 9.30am in the UK I could play 36 before dark.

Re: Advice about Balls?

I am going on 4:30 in the afternoon here in Thailand. I am really lucky in that the course (6900 yards) is only a 5 minute drive. A fully caddied round of 18 is 6.5 pounds (12 USD). 3 nice free putting greens as well.

Re: Advice about Balls?

Another good ball for hard-hitters is the Callaway Big Bertha.

Just if you don't feel like paying the V1x prices.
Probably won't spin as much though.

Re: Advice about Balls?

Have any of you read the Consumer Reports' golf ball ratings? You can view the report here . You can also find a link that describes how these tests were carried out. One of my co-workers showed me this report. He tried the Nike Power Distance Super Soft because of their rating and price. He loves them and can't believe how soft they are. I am going to try those next.

Not almost.. It is an addiction.. My house needs cleaning, my car needs washing and oil change, my grass needs cutting, dishes are piling up, no food in my cupboards, when I'm at work I feel like I am wasting time and I haven't seen my beautiful grand-daughter in months. I believe this meets criteria in the Diagnostics Standards Maual (DSM IV) for someone who has a serious golf/dependency problem. I will see my grand-daughter tonight though, come hell or high water. I mean it this time.

Till next time??? There'll be no waiting because there will be no stopping. Get out the flashlights if need be. Where is the next hole??

just shut and play.
This sounds right to me.

Wink Re: Advice about Balls?

Talk about an "obsession" with golf.I risked getting fired for the last 15 months everyday by taking an hour and a half at the range for my lunch break at work.I am only allowed a half hour. Finally one day while there i accidently ran into a part of the clubhouse with the company vehicle while backing up.It caused $450.00 in damage to the building which my work's insurance had to pay for.My boss never asked what i was doing there at this particlar time in the afternoon.Guess they know. But my game has really improved(especially short game)..and thats all that really matters..right?And yes..i still continue to take my hour/hour and a half lunch there.NOW...whos got it that bad???David
